How to dress according to your skin tone

What is your skin tone? Warm ,cool or neutral .

If you would have asked me the same question a month ago i’d be like ,” I’m chocolate or dark brown if you prefer that” I know ,I know . Right now i can confidently say that i have a warm skin tone .

First things first let’s have a look at how we can determine skin tone .

No special equipment is required . Check your veins under a natural light. What is the color of your veins under your skin?If they are blue or purple you have a cool skin tone. Celebrities with cool skin tones include Lupita Nyong’o and Lucy Liu . If they are green or greenish blue you have a warm skin tone .Celebrities with warm skin tones include Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez.

If you are unable to tell what colour your veins are ,you have a neutral skin tone. Celebrities with the same include Angeline Jolie and Kerry Washington. The reason I’ve included celebrities with what skin tone is to help remind you what colours can look good on you too .

Just between you and me ,this is one way professional stylists use to determine which colour best suits you along with your budget, the occasion you are dressing for, shape of your body and your preference.

While black is a good color and a majority’s comfort zone when it comes to dressing ,the rest of the colours can be good too after figuring out your skin tone . The colours I’m about to mention are not for women alone , the males can try them too .

Warm skin tone

Colours that look good on you include orange, red, green ,purple ,blue ,latte, creamy white, amber and golden yellow .

Colours to avoid include the icy shades( brighter or softer shades of colors) ,sapphire and ruby.

Cool skin tone

Colours that complement your tone include lilac, deep purple ,ruby,Sapphire ,royal blue, bright blue white and grey.

Colours to avoid include yellow and orange .

Neutral skin tone

Colours that look good with you include neutral colours or neutral shades of colours to be specific for example soft pink , vanilla (at first i didn’t know it was a colour. Apparently its a shade of white. )and grey.

Colours to avoid include reds and yellows or anything too bright .

Knowing your skin tone , what colours look good on you and what colours do not will help you while shopping in determining which colours to stock up more .

The above colours are not written on stone . Wearing a colour you should avoid will not get you in any trouble ( the fashion police would have been on your neck though ,if you were a celebrity) .

Ever seen how effortlessly some celebrities pull off bold colours and wondered what the secret to that is ? Well now you know. Don’t be in a hurry to pair pink and yellow though . Start small ,take baby steps the colors will fall in place eventually.

Knowing your skin tone won’t just help you with dressing alone but with picking the right foundation too.

Take is one step to knowing yourself.

ROLE OF THE MODERN WOMAN👑

……………………………………………………………..

Like everyone else in the community woman has a role to play. And what exactly is her role in this modern world?

Way before modernization the gender roles were clearly distinct . The woman’s job was to take care of her home while the husband provided. From a young age she was taught how to cook ,wash , behave, taboos to adhere to, dos and donts in a marriage.

The ultimate goal was to get married and be fruitful . Failure to adhere to the community’s expectations would risk one not being married or worse excommuicated . With years ,the woman has fought for her current position in the community.

The girl child has a say ,she has rights and will sue anyone that tries to go against her legal rights . She is vocal about her problems.

Remember a time when menstruation was such a hard topic to discuss? Girls were so embarrassed about the whole issue . It’s not until recently that it has become a normal thing . Anyone can buy sanitary towels without getting “those eyes”.

The modern woman can get a degree in the course of her choosing. She can choose whether to get married or not , have children or not . She can chair a meeting ,own a company and a have seat in the parliament .

The society appreciates her efforts ,she has won countless Nobels .

She is as hardworking as ever. She doesn’t mind being the breadwinner.

However hard she has worked to earn her current status ,some members of the society still feel she does not deserve it . They rape her, abuse her emotionally ,harass her ,anything to kill her motivation .

While browsing i read this tweet from Solomon Buchi ,

Men that don’t rape women are not special. Men that don’t cheat are not special . Men that treat women with equality are not special. Men that cook in their homes and take care of the child are not special. This is what a normal should be like.

Support the modern woman in her endeavours. She deserves it .

Lazy lounge wear

Lounge wear . What do you wear at home during your day offs or during weekends?

People ( me included) rarely put effort in lounge wears ,i mean why buy something expensive only for you to wear it at home when you can wear something rugged ? That’s why you’d be surprised if you visited them unexpectedly .

I should have written this earlier but better late than never right? Right now most people have normalized working at home. I read an article earlier this week about a lady that would wake up early ,shower ,dress ,make breakfast then start working . She was doing this normal routine because it helped her focus on her work even while at home . She also mentioned wearing heels while on calls that are work related. This simply kept her in a working mood.

Okay that aside. Lounge wears will have you in a good mood all day .

I’d recommend you invest in sweatpants ,jumpers, cotton socks and sets of clothing (it could be a two piece ). Don’t be scared to go for bright colours either .

While doing the purchases go for cotton fabrics and a size larger for extra comfort (this only works for tops not bottoms).

The cold season is upon us so go for warm clothing. For extra fun times with family you can buy matching outfits then play the night way. Days with your children don’t have to be boring anymore.

Since staying in is the new going out, chill in style. If you have no idea where to shop you can try find online stores that stock up lounge wears. You’ll have a variety to choose from.

Be sure to tell me how your hunt comes along.

THE CORSET AND BIKER SHORT TREND

Originally the corset was worn as an undergarment . Lately well it’s more stylish when layered with other pieces ( layering is basically my weakness .I don’t know maybe it’s because i prefer summer to cold seasons. )

This is the layering season . You can finally get creative with your clothes to come up with a stylish yet warm outfit .

The corset and biker short has been a trend for sometime now and is perfect for casual hangouts.

I love how the corset is tight at the waist area making it even more feminine . It ensures your curves are in place.

If you don’t mind you can wear it vice versa ,the corset as a top then the white shirt as a kimono . It’ll still be a bomb outfit.

I like how this outfit is decent yet stylish at the same time . Most parts of your body are covered hence less insecurities .

For the shoes i went for something simple . I didn’t want them attracting any attention since the corset is already doing that .

Be sure to tell me how your corset and biker short outfit turns out.

Basketball shorts . If you have never tried them on you’re definitely missing out . They are so comfortable 😊.

Girls ,it’s like wearing a skirt that is not tight, only this time there is an advantage of sitting how you want😂.

Immediately i got this pair ( i actually bought 2 ,I’ll reveal the other one in due time😉) i wanted to wear them out,i know it’s normal to wear them indoors but i did not want that .

So i tried different pieces . I tried shirts ,T-shirts ;tucked them in , tied a knot on my waist in vain . It wasn’t the look i was after ,i guess it depends with one’s body shape and preference .

Then i tried this and voila😍 i got my outfit.

Where i’d wear it ?

Let’s see it would definitely be my outfit of choice for casual hangouts. The type with no special occasion just chilling with friends or family .

There is nothing formal about this look ,don’t be mistaken unless well you’re the boss and you wear what you want😂. I’m joking ,your employees will think you’re a joke and won’t respect you as they should. So even if it’s casual you could stick to jeans and t-shirts if work is involved.😊

While picking an outfit i do this thing of balancing my look whereby if i wear something baggy i pair it with something tight or fitting for my top. No it doesn’t work for me wearing it the other way around.

So that’s why i wore the Calvin Klein bralette , to show some skin at the waist . It makes the outfit feminine.

For the shoes i went for a brighter colour ,making the outfit pop😍.

Okay see you around 😊.

…………………………………………………………….

So what really catches your eye and makes you conclude that she looks stuck up or has the high maintenance vibe ?

Every so often i like exploring with the lady in me. Act all refined and stuff😂. You know that vibe someone gives you you may think they have all their shit figured out just by how they look ,walk, talk or behave generally.

In today’s blog I’ll share with you few tips you could follow to achieve the classy ,elegant look.

Looking like a million bucks😂

Okay let’s get into it 💜💜

1. Light makeup .

Too much makeup attracts attention to your face. The lesser the better and don’t use bright colours preferably use lighter shades.

2. Heels or flats.

Opt to wear pointed heels or flats . They have a way of complementing your entire outfit. Go for plain colours could be dark or not so bright. The idea is to make you the center of attraction effortlessly without you looking like a clown.

3. Decency

A classy woman is modest so decency is key . Don’t expose too much if you know what i mean .

4. Well fitting clothes.

Well fitting clothes tend to compliment your body shape . They have that feminine vibe so stock them up hunny .

5. Accessories.

Invest in good jewellery. They have a way of turning your outfit from 1 to 100 real quick. Watches, necklaces or ear pieces whichever you’re into.

6. Sunglasses.

We can both agree that sunglasses make you feel some type of way. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of finding a pair that fits your face shape. It’s crucial you do 🙂

7. Hair do .

You could wear your hair up or make it neat messy hairdos aren’t part of the classy you package.💝

In conclusion you could try add good mannerisms to what I’ve said above .

A look like this holds some power . Its one that will have everyone listening to you when you speak . It demands respect even in a room full of strangers.

Okay😊😊thank you for reading this piece and be sure to tell me how your classy outfit turns out.More to come your way 🥀

3 ways on how to style biker shorts

So biker shorts are back with a bang. Okay they have been for a while now. I’m not one to go with trends but damn i had to try this one out and i must say ,I’m not disappointed 😊. Thing about fashion and life at large is that you must be willing to learn . Have an open mind .

I mean what’s not to like about biker shorts. They are comfortable and can be worn say while running errands ,workouts or even grabbing brunch.

And now without much ado ,

The first way of styling biker shorts.

First impression

Reserved

Stylish

Athletic

You could pair your biker short with an oversized shirt. The belt creates curves (whether you have them or nah) making it more feminine. It all gets down to what you’re comfortable in ,what parts of your body you’re most confident about and your specific way of dressing.

I remember getting this specific shirt because of it’s color . I didn’t know exactly what I’d pair it with at the moment but i liked it none the less so i bought it . I fitted it afterwards then decided to pair it with the white biker short and bam 😊, i loved the outcome .

Okay i could talk about this outfit all day so let’s just get to the second way of styling biker shorts.💜

I love the vibe of this outfit no kidding . It has that casual official touch and the shoes😍😍 idk about you but i like like. If that’s even grammatical .😂

Okay let’s talk about the outfit.

Outgoing

So originally i saw this idea on Pinterest and decided to try it. The blazer makes it official and helps cover up most part of the thorax.

The shoes makes the outfit even more stylish. I also love how the bag complements the outfit ,in its own way it stands out since the rest are black and white😊.

Now onto the last way(for now) of styling biker shorts.

I chose an oversized shirt and a corset top. It’s almost like the first way just made a few changes. Corset tops have become a thing for a while now and I’m happy how i get to play around with them .

Out of the three i definitely loved this outfit most .

Be sure to tell me your preferred outfit 1,2 or 3 in the comment section below.😊😊

AN IDEAL AFRICAN WOMAN👑

…………………………………………………………..

So who exactly is an ideal African woman? What does society expect from her? How is she evolving? Is the evolution in her favor? Given a choice would you rather the African woman or the modern woman? What are the challenges she faces?

What’s the first image that comes in mind about your ideal African woman definition. No wait let me go first , definitely someone in an Ankara, outspoken about her beliefs, a firm believer of a higher being,a mother,a wife,a submissive, loving ,caring ,hardworking female with a nurturing soul, strict about taboos and so forth. I could go on and on and on and on but you get the picture right?

Over time the African woman has evolved tremendously. A gender that was viewed as inferior has fought hard for their rights . Gender discrimination, domestic violence, early marriage, female genital mutilation, wife inheritance …although this acts have not been done away with completely ,we can agree that a significant difference has been made.

It’s time we respected the modern woman’s decisions . The modern woman has adapted a new way of living generally . She is slowly doing away with her roots . She wants her skin bleached, she wants her gender ” replaced”,she does not want to have children till she’s done with her studies or not at all ,she wants to get rich quick and at any cost ,she wants a big a** and a tiny waist . She wants so much more than was earlier offered to her. She is ambitious .She is intelligent . She is a go getter.

We may not agree with half of her opinions and that’s completely okay.

We need not be violent about it whatsoever.

She has done so much to be where she is now. Cut her some slack .

People are resistant to change but that doesn’t stop it from happening . The African woman is metamorphosizing .She is transitioning 🙂

Special thanks to my best friend Beverlyne Ong’enge❤❤❤

ALL BLACK FOR WORK 🖤

……………………………………………………………..

I decided to have black as my second monochromatic look . This is the same outfit i wore in my previous blog just did some few changes . I got rid of the tie ,half coat and changed the shoes . It’s more feminine now right?

Given a choice I’d probably have all my clothes in black. All factors considered, I feel the most confident and comfortable when wearing an all black outfit . I know it can be boring when worn consecutively but let’s be honest you can get creative with black.

About black🖤

Black is elegant. Black is chic . Black favours all skin tones. Black favors all hair colors. Black goes well with almost all occasions. Black goes well with almost all seasons (only of you try the different textures available).

Yeah i said that right .Black can be worn during different seasons. Go for cotton when it’s cold and silk or linen when its warm.

Just like any other color black has different shades that you could play around with. If you feel like spicing up your look try shoes or handbags or scarfs of different color. Try red, white or brown if you’re undecided.

One more thing. Accessorize! Have your jewelry game on hunny.

For my outfit i added the one inch shoes for a feminine yet official touch. This would definitely be my outfit of choice when going for an interview . It shows that your are there for business ,no prints no bright colours just plainly official.

Dressing has never been so easy😊.

I honestly loved the outcome of transforming this outfit into a more feminine look

Be sure to tell me how your all black outfit turns out .

How to Embrace the Official Tom Boy Dress

So who is a tomboy? How do you identify a tom boy ? Would you mind if your daughter, friend was a tom boy?

It’s is a girl who enjoys activities associated with boys. It was originally used to refer to immodest women. Women that dressed or behaved in a “peculiar” way. They faced rejection from the community and were often heavily punished.

Remember when women were inferior to men and kitchen was their place. They were not to talk unless spoken to, formal education was a male’s thing too and not to forget anything other than a long, decent dress was unacceptable for women’s clothing. There was no room for creativity.

Times have changed now but not that much especially for the girls that dress like boys. People judge them harshly and although they are not banished from the community their lives aren’t those to envy.

What’s the first thing that comes in mind when you see a tom boy? Are there rules of dressing? Can they be changed?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m just curious. Remember a time when women weren’t supposed to wear pants at all? All that is in the past now (although in some communities it’s still not allowed).

More often than not tomboys are viewed as people who are not interested in fashion, beauty or style. People that have taken the freedom of dressing too far. People trying to be someone they are not by dressing in a certain way.

It’s quite unfortunate people think that every tomboy is gay. I know chances are high she is but still. What happened to getting to know people? I mean its just a way of dressing right?

It’s quite unfortunate people think that every tomboy is gay. I know chances are high she is but still .What happened to getting to know people? I mean its just a way of dressing right?

A while back i was reading an article . Men were asked if they’d approach a tomboy . Most people said they wouldn’t with reasons like ,” why would i waste my time and i know she’s gay?”,”she looks more of a man than i am ” (he clearly is one insecure man).”she doesn’t look submissive “.The ones that said they would gave reasons like ,”tomboys are decent “, “they look serious about life and have that don’t care attitude which is completely attractive”.

Next time you feel like exploring your freedom of dressing try the tomboy look.

How to embrace the official tomboy style

It might be for an interview or just for fun (Nothing about this look screams party).

Okay let’s get into it;

1. Grab a tie.

2 . Choose a plain colour for the shirt.

3. Get fitting pants with a fitting blazer preferably of the same colour.

4 If you have a half coat well and good.

5 . Go for official shoes (brown or black will do the trick).

The hat just complements the look.

You can never go wrong with either of those😊
